Evaluation Statement

On page 142 the author states that there is on dominant Ideological State Apparatus today, the school systems.

In the past the church was religious and educational. Eventually the school replaced the educational realm of the church. The school systems produces production workers. They provided students with knowledge to become part of the working class. This is the only capital can be redistributed in society. Students are trained to work for wages that less than the work they are actually performing. I believe that the separation of the schools in the educational realm had an effect on the decline of the school systems in the inner-city. Although accountability of the student and parent has reflected and reverted the blame on the educators for their failures. Religion keeps a student grounded. The school system prepares the most employees to become working class. I think that based on resources some schools train students to become part of the working class, and others prepare to become future CEO’s. Students should be trained to perform the skills that they are capable and able to perform. Why attend school to focus on being g an employee.  Student should have academic freedom. If they want to become an engineer. All class students take should be applicable to the careers the want to pursue. Every year in this society people graduate from college and are not even member of the working class. When students begin middle school they should began training to become part of the working class. Student are hostages are like prisoners in this society because they are first to attend school because of laws. Schools that train or cater to a student’s strengths those students have a chance for more Potential earnings. Changes need to be made in the school system. Tradition form and styles of education are archaic. There is more than one way to solve a mathematical equation. Schools should focus more on a student’s strengths instead of wasting tax payer’s money on classes that are irrelevant. If a student is good with computers why waste time with civics. That student should focus more on computer science course. The educational system will give you a free general public education, but must pay for a $100,000 education to focus on a specific major. After college education is received. The student is in debt and sometimes unable to get a job. For 18 years being subjected as if you were prisoner to attend public schools, and is a catastrophe that the student was not prepared to enter society as a producer to gain capital.

Interpretive Question

On page 140The author states that the reproduction of the relations of production is ensured by the superstructure, by the legal political superstructure and the ideological superstructure. On page 142 that there is a shared role of reproducing the relations of production. Is the role of schools to educate to reproduce wealth or to profits and receive funding to add towards raises and bonuses.

Where did the term Ideology originate? Is there a difference between Ideology and Ideologues?

On page 12 the author states that Following a classic tradition in the philosophy of the enlightenment, in which the notion of genesis holds a central place meant by it the theory (-logy) of the genesis of ideas (ideo-). On page 12 the author writes that Marx took Ideology and Ideologues expressions up very early in his life, in his early works, and had to give them completely different meaning. He was waging an ideological struggle, conducting himself like a radical left ideologue and then a utopian communist ideologue, in combating other ideologues his adversaries.

Evaluation Statement

On page 178 the author writes in this anarchist conception, then, we can see that 1. Exploitation is replaced by repression or is thought of as a form of repression; and 2. Ideology is replaced by repression or is thought of as a form of repression. Repression thus becomes the Centre of Centre’s, the essence of the society based on capitalist class exploitation.

The author uses an example of the police as a form of repression. I view order and repression differently. Elected of officials create oppression. The battle of who’s political party is right causes a division in society. This battle causes repression in society. Exploitation is caused by politicians who uses big markets to use the media for exploitation. Exploitation starts with the media because it formulates society’s opinion on politics. This effect continues cause a division in society. The media exploits the party that they disagree with. They have the power to cause on to not like another because of their race, gender, or sexuality. The media can also fuel a crowd to anger and cause a riot. I think that elected officials should allow the media to be able to freely deliver the news. If I’m a politician and receive a large donation, I will show favoritism and loyalty to that person. Politics is very corrupt and causes exploitation to innocent individuals. The police just follow orders given by politicians. The police have no power. They are part of the working class. The working class is need for a capitalist society, but they will all work to find themselves never achieve wealth, but able to sustain enough capital to redistribute it in society. By the middle class being distracted by politics. Politics exploits the working class and is the basis for their repression. Politicians would use a racial issue to distract the public. The politician would use the issue to win votes. I think they use society as their puppets. The media have the power because they can control what people think. Exploitation can be held to a minimum if society demand the truth from the media. Society can’t let political rhetoric change their views. They need to exercise their rights to change politics. The civil rights movement changed the politics of the time. Politicians and the media had society convinced that one race was superior to the other. Society exercised their rights to vote and gradually caused society to change their politics. Because of repression politics and the media prevents society from coming together as one unit. Society will always be divided as long as the media continues to cause controversy and reminds society of the flaws of others. The courts and society need consider change the laws that the media is governed under to be more responsible. If media doesn’t change the world will be become more chaotic.

Interpretive Question

On page 12 the author writes that Ideology was coined by Destutt de Tracy Cabanis and their circle and Napoleon uttered his famous phrase: “the ideologues are no use. On page 174 the author write that Ideology has no history. On page 178 the author writes the totalitarian myth of the ubiquitous Grand Inquisitor, like the anarchist myth of the ubiquitous cop “in your head”, is based on the same anti-Marxist conception of the society works. On page 181 the author writes Ideology represents individual’s imaginer relation to their real conditions of existence. Does a teacher Ideology effect the way relay information to a student? Does a families Ideology have an effect on the way a student receives information.

What is the intimate connection between economics and politics that Friedman is referring to on page 8, "there is an intimate relationship between economics and politics?

It is widely believed that politics and economics are separate and largely unconnected; that individual freedom is a political matter and material welfare an economic problem. Economic arrangements play a dual role in the promotion of a free society. On the one hand, freedom in economic arrangements is itself a component of freedom broadly understood, so economic freedom is an end in itself. In the second place, economic freedom is also an indispensable means towards the achievement of political freedom.

Evaluation

On page 9, Friedman writes that The nineteenth century and early twentieth century in the Western world stand out as striking exceptions to the general trend of historical development. Political freedom in the instance clearly came along with the free market and the development of capitalist institutions.

In the Western world in the nineteenth and early twentieth century Political freedom did not come as a guarantee to all. The free market was the cause of oppression and free labor. The free market was not balanced because cheap or free labor created big profits. After centuries after being oppressed how can individuals recover and survive in a society when they are not considered as citizens and are unable to vote.  Although freedom was guaranteed. Laws restricted them from establishing Political and Economic freedom. Political freedom was guaranteed to the one gender and one race. Political freedom came through the civil rights era where people died and fought for their rights which created opportunities for political freedom. When I think of freedom I start with this country and when freedom of people of my heritage was a reality. Economic freedom was a reality but, a person could be kidnapped into slavery, or could be lynched because of their race. Now this relates to education because when schools became integrated in many states public schools closed down and this is when most private schools were created, therefore schools were still segregated. My grandmother had to attend school in another state to get an education. Then students of certain races became excluded by being labeled in the school system and continued to be separated. In today's society a great education may not be obtained without economic freedom. Education is the will provide economic freedom. Political freedom is obtained through economic freedom. This country is restricted by majority voting democratic or republican. This is determined by economic classes. Republicans tend to be the wealthy and democrats tend to be the working class and poor. This shows that people with economic freedom tend vote republican. Oppression is more political and economical. Laws and rules passed or controlled by people with economic freedom, and this effects people without economic freedom. Now the free market in education are charter schools. Students have a choice to attend the public schools in their respective cities or attend a charter school. Now public schools have competition. Students should have the freedom to attend a better school if there school district doesn't offer a good education. These student may not be able to afford the private schools in their cities.  Charter schools have matriculated more affluent areas, or in school districts that are doing well.  It is devastating to know that education is segregated. In the past in was separated by race and presently it is separated by economics. I believe capitalism caused this destruction. My first thought is that if tax payers are paying taxed for education, why can their child not live in that community and go to a school where they are safe and education is superb. Big markets began place their businesses in suburban in rural areas. Smaller communities began getting more affluent citizen to live in those area. Which they can raise taxes and spend more on education. These business leaving school districts affect money in cities and less money can be spent on education. The free market and the development of capitalism did more harm than good.

Interpretive question

On page 18 Friedman writes that it is entirely appropriate that men make sacrifices to advocate causes in which they deeply believe. Indeed it is important to preserve freedom only for people who are willing to practice self-denial, for otherwise freedom degenerates into license and irresponsibility. What is essential is that the cost of advocating unpopular causes be tolerable and not prohibitive. Then he states on page 21 that the groups of society that have the most at stake in the preservation and strengthening of competitive capitalism are those minority groups which can most easily become the object of the distrust and enmity of the majority - the Negros, the Jews, the foreign-born, to mention only the obvious. Yet, Paradoxically enough , the enemies of the free market - the socialist and communist - have been recruited in the disproportionate measure from these groups.  Why would these groups not consider joining the other parties because they have been oppressed and not able to achieve economic and political freedom? When referring to political and economic freedom is Friedman including these groups. On page 16 Friedman the writes in order for a man to advocate anything, they must in the first place be able to earn a living. Finally how will minority group achieve freedom? In the education system African Americans continue to go to the worst scores and attend the worst school district. How can the obtained Freidman.

Factual Question

What is unanimity, and what is Friedman referring to on page 28 when he writes Unanimity is, of course , and ideal?

unanimity is an agreement by all people involved. According to vocabulary .com unanimity is "When a group or a decision is unanimous, it means that everyone is in total agreement. Just imagine if you let third graders vote on what to serve at lunch: Pizza and candy would be the unanimous choice!" Friedman wrote that in the practice, we can afford neither the time nor the effort that would be required to achieve complete unanimity on every issue. We must perforce accept something less. We are thus led to accept majority rule in one form or another as an expedient. On the other hand , if the minority feels strongly about the issue involved , even a bare majority will not do. There is no true unanimity rules all parties will not be able to agree. Rules are determined by the majority.

Evaluative Statement:

From pages 28-32 Friedman writes about the action through government on the grounds of technical monopoly and neighborhood effects. On page 28 Freidman writes the role of government just considered is to do something that the market cannot do for itself. Page 28 reads that monopoly implies the absence of alternatives and thereby inhibits effective freedom of exchange.

Monopoly is the exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity or service.  On page 28 Friedman writes that the technical conditions make a monopoly the natural outcome of competitive market forces, there are only three alternatives that seem available: private monopoly, public monopoly, or public regulation. If the markets controlled markets controlled by governments because of technical situations it would be unfair to citizens. It is good that the government regulates certain markets. Friedman used the example of the post office. It seems that he think it is unreasonable that they have no competition. I think government must regulate some businesses because the free market is profit based and the government is customer based. The government makes it reasonable for the average person to mail a letter. the price of a stamp may increase because of inflation, but the free market would raise for the price for strictly profit. A company would raise the prices and they would fluctuate like gas prices. Although this make feel as if the government depriving markets of their economic free, but the technical monopoly protect the interest of society. Schools are not a monopoly the government regulates standards, but students can choose the school they want to attend whether public, private, or charter. Brown vs. The Board of Education granted integration of schools. This case was the platform for students not to be denied to attend public schools because of their race. Some say this is the destruction of the school system because integration over time caused some school systems to fail. Although taxes are paid towards schools. A monopoly would be ineffective when it comes to education because if a parent can send their child to a Jewish school to identify with their religion private schools are expensive but that is the option of the parent, which they are afforded to give their a exceptional education. But no school can veer from the educational standard that students must be taught when they attend various schools. All schools must teach student a way in which they are prepared to pass state standardized test. Students should be afforded a fair education, and if parents are financial status afford them the opportunity to send their child to a private institution that should be an option available. Markets should not be able to saturate standardized test because student could have an unfair advantage. Schools are funded based on scores. Markets could fund schools based on monetary relationships. Government monopoly can change laws for the rights of all people. A big market cannot deliver male to an individual because their sexual orientation.

 

Interpretive Question:  

On page 23 Friedman wrote that unanimity without conformity tends towards ineffectiveness and fragmentation. On page 24 he states that the basic values can seldom be resolved at the ballot box. On page 25 he writes that no set of rules can prevail unless most participants most of the conform to them without external sanctions. On page 33 Friedman writes that we do not believe in freedom for madmen or children. How would Friedman suggest unanimity in the educational system, and resolve is issues outside of using the ballot box, and would solve the exclusion of individuals because race, sex gender, and sexuality because of no unanimity?

What are the two grounds governmental intervention education can be rationalized into?

On page 1 the author writes the first is the existence of the substantial neighborhood effects, circumstances under which the action of one individual imposes significant costs on the on the other individuals for which it's not feasible to make him compensate them , or yet significant gains to other individuals for which it is not feasible to make them compensate him-circumstances that make voluntary exchange impossible. The second is the paternalistic concern for the children and other irresponsible individuals. Neighborhood effects and paternalistic concern for children and other irresponsible individuals . Neighborhood effects and paternalism have very different implications of general education for citizenship and 2. specialized vocational education. The grounds for government intervention are widely different in these two area and justify very different types f action.

Evaluative Statement

On page 1 of the article the author wrote that a stable and democratic society is impossible without a minimum degree of literacy and knowledge on the part of most citizens and without widespread acceptance of some common set of values.

Education is an important part of our society. It is essential the key continue to the advancement of our society. The role of government in education has always been key to issues in education from making English a common language and integrating schools. The main issue is that citizen pay taxes to for public schools to provide the children a great education, but in fact its standard education. It is also up to the parents, sacrifices have to be made for your child to succeed. If a child is to succeed in sports they would play in different leagues outside of school to improve their performance standards. Parents are willing to make sacrifices for extracurricular activities, but not for the Childs education. Parent need to also be more involved in schools. When I attended a inner city school for few parents were involved in the PTA, and student booster clubs. When I attended a suburban school to many parents volunteered. This shows that parent care about their child education because they are not only volunteering at the school, but also studying with their child at home. Students who parents are not involved would not even complete their homework. This behavior would continue if parents with this attitude receive vouchers to attend a better school. If they are not putting in the effort to help their child be successful, the child will no matter what school they attend. Teachers deal with a lot and their salaries are consistent with the constant requirements that the government is implementing. Some teachers maybe cynical because they really want to teach but standardized test forces them to teach for students to pass the test. I think the structure of the education system has failed and they are not honest and show to much compassion when it comes to educational needs of the student. Have a trade will almost guarantee a student a job to provide for himself upon graduation. Realistically all student are not college or military bound. They leave high school confused, then live an unproductive life which as not a benefit to society. Schools have failed these students. When students show interest in a vocational skill the school should assist the student on receiving such a trade. The government, school systems, and teachers are always blamed for the low performance of students. The parents of the student are never evaluated. When parents are more accountable for their Childs education, schools performing low will improve.

On page 1 the author states that the role of the activities of the government are mostly limited to schooling.
